POTASSIUM PRO TEST KIT
40 Test
Saltwater Aquarium Potassium Test
High precision POTASSIUM test
Instructions:
1. Prepare the filter kit as follows:
a. Place a clean, dry filter paper (II) on the funnel (III)
b. Place the upper cylinder (I) on the filter paper and push
down, securing the filter paper between the cylinder and the
funnel.
c. Place the assembled filter on the filter cup (IV)
2. Using the large syringe provided, inject exactly 2
ml of the water to be tested into one of the glass vials.
3. Add exactly 3ml of RO or distilled water to 2 ml of sample water.
4. Add 4 drops of Potassium Pro Reagent A, close the vial with the cap and
shake for 15 seconds.
5. Add 11 drops of Potassium Pro Reagent B, close the vial with the cap and
shake for 15 seconds.
6. Wait for 10 minutes (use a stopwatch) and then pour all the liquid
from the glass vial onto the filter.
7. Wait (approximately 7 minutes) until at least 3ml of filtered liquid
has collected in the filter cup (above the line), remove the filter and discard the
remaining liquid. Using the 5ml syringe, inject exactly 3ml of
filtered liquid from the filter cup into the second glass vial.
8. Ensure that the needle provided is on the 1ml titration syringe and
fill with 0.5ml of Potassium Pro Titrant (D).
Note on loading the 1ml titration syringe Rinse the
syringe plunger (see arrow in diagram) until it reaches the 1.0ml mark
. The surface of the liquid will be approximately 0.1 – 0.15ml below the plunger. Do not try to remove air trapped between
the liquid and the plunger. This small volume of
air corresponds to the liquid contained
inside the plastic needle.
9. Insert the syringe into the center of the
titrant solution so that the graduations
on the side of the syringe are visible. The graduations of the graduations
are 0.01 ml, equivalent to 3 ppm potassium.
10. Add 2 drops of Potassium Pro Reagent C and mix slowly. The
test sample will now not have the starting color of the titration as shown on
the instruction card.
11. Screw the glass vial onto the base of the titrant solution.
12. Add one drop at a time of Potassium Pro Titrant (D) by depressing the
syringe plunger and mixing slowly immediately afterwards, until the final color is achieved.
Pay particular attention to the color of the test sample after adding the first
drop.
Note: The amount of titrant used is inversely proportional to the level of
potassium in the tank water sample. If the final color is reached after the first
drop, the potassium level is 467 ppm or greater.
13. Record the amount of titrant used (based on the initial and final
position of the plunger, not the liquid surface) and use the table to calculate the
level of potassium in the water sample.
14. Discard unused solution Rinse all syringes, glass vials, and
the filter in RO water or distilled water before storing. Filter papers are
used only once.
