  • 1 10 mL bottle of NO3 reagent 1

The Nitrate Danger

Nitrates are the final product of the nitrification process, which occurs mainly in the filter. Their accumulation in freshwater aquariums is generally well tolerated up to values close to 80 mg/L.

However, also to avoid algal proliferation problems, it is best not to exceed the value of 20 mg/L.

In marine aquariums, especially if populated by invertebrates, the value should not exceed 10 mg/L.

What are they

Nitrates are the final product of the transformation of Ammonia, carried out by nitrification bacteria. Nitrates therefore tend to accumulate in water and may also already be present in tap water.

How to do the test

1. Rinse the test tube repeatedly with the water to be analyzed.

2. Fill the test tube with 10 mL of water to be analyzed.

3. Add 5 drops of the NO3 1 reagent and shake the test tube.

4. Add 5 drops of the NO3 2 reagent and shake the test tube.

5. Add 1 measure of the powder contained in the green container and shake well for about 20 seconds.

6. Wait about 15 minutes and then determine the quantity of Nitrates by comparing the color of the liquid contained in the test tube with that of the colorimetric scale provided.
