What is Ammonia

Ammonia/Ammonium is produced by the metabolism of fish and can also derive from the decomposition of organic material.

In recently set up aquariums, when the nitrifying bacterial flora have not yet adequately colonized the filter, Ammonia/Ammonium tends to accumulate and must be constantly monitored until it disappears.

How to do the test

1. Rinse the test tube repeatedly with the water to be analyzed.

2. Fill the test tube with 10 mL of water to be analyzed.

3. Add 5 drops of the NH3 1 reagent and shake the test tube.

4. Add 5 drops of the NH3 2 reagent and shake the test tube.

5. Add 5 drops of the NH3 3 reagent and shake the test tube again.

6. Wait about 15 minutes and then determine the value by comparing the color of the liquid contained in the test tube with that of the colorimetric scale provided.
