Aponogeton Ulvaceus – Striking Madagascar Plant for Large Decorative Aquariums
Aponogeton ulvaceus is one of the most beautiful and ornamental species of Aponogeton, native to Madagascar. It features delicate, light green transparent leaves with softly scalloped edges that sway gracefully in the water. A single bulb can produce more than 40 leaves ranging from 30 to 60 cm in length, forming a plant mass up to 50 cm wide. Due to its size and presence, it is best used as a solitary showpiece in large aquariums.
Despite its exotic appearance, Aponogeton ulvaceus is remarkably tolerant and thrives in both soft and hard water, especially when CO₂ and nutrients are provided. There are several varieties of this species, and some require a natural resting period where the bulb temporarily stops leaf production. After dormancy, it resumes growth spontaneously.
Main features:
• Transparent, wavy-edged green leaves with fluid motion
• One bulb can produce over 40 leaves up to 60 cm long
• Ideal as a solitary focal point in large display tanks
• Thrives in soft or hard water with added CO₂ and nutrients
• Some varieties require a resting phase of the bulb
• Excellent for open tanks with strong lighting
• Provides a spectacular and elegant visual effect
Why choose Aponogeton Ulvaceus:
A stunning centerpiece for large aquariums, combining delicate motion with bold presence. Its generous foliage, adaptability, and natural beauty make it perfect for aquascapers seeking visual depth and organic movement.
