Matrix supports aerobic bacteria on its outer surface to convert ammonia into nitrite and nitrite into nitrate, while the internal porous network houses anaerobic bacteria that reduce nitrate into harmless nitrogen gas, which then escapes at the surface. This dual action makes Matrix a complete biological solution that supports a stable nitrogen cycle even in heavily stocked tanks.
