ROTALA BONSAI – Compact Foreground Plant for Freshwater Aquariums
Rotala 'Bonsai' is a compact and ornamental aquatic plant, derived from a selection of Bacopa caroliniana. It features a slow growth habit, tiny rounded leaves, and a neat structure, making it ideal for the foreground or midground in planted aquariums. Under high light conditions, the tips of the plant turn reddish, while in lower light, the leaves become larger and the plant adopts a looser form. Its miniature stature makes it particularly suitable for nano aquariums and fine-detail aquascapes.
Rotala 'Bonsai' responds well to frequent trimming. New cuttings can be replanted near the base to create a dense, bushy group. Although hardy, it benefits from medium to high lighting, CO₂ supplementation, and regular fertilization to maintain its compact form and vivid coloration.
