Iron is immobile in plants; this means that plants cannot transfer iron from old leaves to new ones. Thus, deficiency symptoms appear first on new or young leaves. Since plants use iron to produce chlorophyll, a lack of iron causes chlorosis, or yellowing, of younger leaves. Furthermore, the stems can be short and weak.
If the deficiency is severe and prolonged, each new leaf appears lighter in color than the previous one. Propel™ a concentrated source (10,000 mg/L) of ferrous iron given by the union of immediately available iron with that released over time. If iron is supplied in ferric form (Fe3+) then it must be reduced by
plants to the ferrous form (Fe2+) before it can be used. This process, known as reduction, requires plants to use energy. Propel™ provides iron already in ferrous form, optimizing iron use. Additionally, Propel™ contains a reducing agent that helps convert any iron present (such as iron in the substrate) to its ferrous form.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Use 5 ml per 200 L of water three times a week, or as needed to maintain iron at approximately 0.10 mg/L.
