LUDWIGIA ARCUATA – Fine-Leaved Red Stem Plant for High-Light Aquariums

Ludwigia arcuata is a fine-leaved aquatic stem plant admired for its narrow foliage and vibrant coloration, which ranges from copper-brown to vivid red depending on light intensity. Native to the wetland areas of North America, this species brings a refined vertical element to the middle ground of planted aquariums, offering structure, color and a natural aesthetic appeal. Its delicate form and environmental responsiveness make it a favorite among experienced aquascapers.

In emersed form, the stems remain green, but when submerged, the plant develops warmer hues, making it ideal for nature-style layouts and Dutch aquariums. It grows rapidly under strong lighting and responds well to CO₂ supplementation. Ludwigia arcuata propagates easily through head cuttings and side shoots, and trimming the lower third of its stems encourages dense branching and healthy new growth.

Key features:

  • Thin-leaved and decorative stem plant

  • Color shifts from green (emersed) to red (submerged)

  • Fast growth under strong light

  • Height: 30–40 cm, ideal for midground placement

  • Great for natural and Dutch-style aquascapes

  • Easy propagation via cuttings and side shoots

  • Tolerates pH between 5 and 8

  • Prefers very soft to moderately hard water

  • Benefits from CO₂ supplementation

Why choose Ludwigia arcuata:

Ludwigia arcuata is a refined and colorful stem plant that adds vertical motion, contrast, and richness to planted tanks. Its visual responsiveness to lighting and water conditions makes it an excellent choice for aquascapers aiming to shape detailed, dynamic aquascapes.
