LIMNOPHILA HIPPURIDOIDES – Asian Background Plant with Red-Violet Leaves

Limnophila hippuridoides is an eye-catching background plant native to Asia, valued for its striking coloration and adaptability to a wide range of aquarium conditions. Its stems grow between 20 and 50 cm tall and 6–10 cm wide, making it ideal for creating depth and vertical contrast in the rear section of the aquarium.

The plant’s elongated leaves are green with a distinct reddish-purple underside. When grown under strong light with proper CO₂ and nutrient supplementation, the entire leaf turns a deep red-violet, adding dramatic coloration to any aquascape.

This is a fast-growing and resilient plant that readily produces new shoots from the base of older stems. Regular trimming of the taller, aged stems is recommended to encourage bushier growth and allow room for fresh, vibrant shoots to emerge. It is also easy to propagate through cuttings, making it a practical choice for both beginners and experienced aquarists.
