HYDROCOTYLE LEUCOCEPHALA
In the tropical climate of our greenhouses, particularly strong plants are lovingly cared for and cultivated over several months until they reach XXL dimensions. These "solitaries" are ideal for the setup and design of larger aquariums and give the impression of a lush landscape right from the start.
Hydrocotyle leucocephala is one of the particularly fast-growing plants and is therefore known for preventing algae. A surplus of nutrients in the water can be quickly degraded and thus worsen the conditions for algae growth. The aquatic roots on the stems are particularly good at absorbing easily dissolved nutrients. Regular shortening of the shoots results in a dense, magnificent bush with fresh, new shoots. Hydrocotyle is also considered an indicator plant: if the leaves are small and yellowish, there is usually a nitrate deficiency, if the leaves are large, putty and blue-green in color, there is usually a surplus of nitrates and therefore an increased risk of uncontrolled algae formation.
