HYDROCOTYLE VERTICILLATA – Ornamental Umbrella Plant for Aquariums

Hydrocotyle verticillata is a highly ornamental aquatic centella, ideal for both the foreground and midground areas of an aquarium. Recognized for its distinctive umbrella-shaped leaves, this plant adds a unique and natural touch to planted layouts. It grows more slowly compared to species like Hydrocotyle leucocephala and Hydrocotyle tripartita, making it especially suitable for stable, long-lasting aquascapes.

Native to North America, Hydrocotyle verticillata thrives in cooler water temperatures between 18–26°C, under high lighting conditions with good CO₂ availability. During field observations, outstanding specimens were found in the shallow, crystal-clear waters of the Rio Sucuri in Brazil, where temperatures remained around 23°C with high CO₂ concentration.

Hydrocotyle verticillata pairs beautifully with low-growing carpet plants like Hemianthus callitrichoides, where its delicate "umbrellas" emerge gracefully, creating a highly natural visual effect.
