The right pH value is essential for the healthy life of the marine aquarium; it is normally between 8.1 and 8.3. Too marked pH fluctuations cause stress for many organisms, causing behavioral changes and making them more susceptible to disease.
What is it
The pH represents the concentration of hydrogen ions present in the water. The pH scale goes from 0 to 14, the central value 7 represents neutrality, below 7 the water is defined as acidic, above it is basic or alkaline.
How to do the test
1. Rinse the test tube repeatedly with the water to be analyzed.
2. Fill the test tube with 5 mL of water to be analyzed.
3. Add 5 drops of pH reagent and shake the test tube for a few seconds.
4. Determine the pH value by comparing the color of the liquid contained in the test tube with that of the colorimetric scale provided.
