PHOSBAN-L 500ml
Phosban-L is a concentrated solution of Lathanum for use in aquariums to control dissolved phosphate. Phosban-L has an extremely high capacity to rapidly bind large amounts of phosphate, making it an excellent choice for removing phosphate from aquarium water when phosphate levels are unusually high. It is more economical to use than granular media. Phosban-L is safe to use in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums
With Phosban-L, large fish populations can be maintained without high PO4 build-up. In reef aquariums, Phosban-L is a convenient way to help maintain the low phosphate levels needed to promote rapid coral growth. Use Phosban-L when dissolved phosphate levels are above 0.2 mg/L and slowly dose enough to bring the level to approximately 0.1 mg/L over a few days. Lanthanum chloride is very effective at lowering dissolved phosphate when the concentration is above 0.1 mg/L. When the phosphate concentration is below 0.1 mg/L it is less effective and this may cause residual lanthanum chloride to remain in the aquarium water. At 0.1 mg/L, use Phosban GFO to absorb the phosphate and keep levels below 0.03 ppm.
Instructions:
Dilute Phosban-L by mixing 100 ml of Phosban-L with 200 ml of reverse osmosis or deionized water. Just 5 ml of diluted solution added to 20 US gallons will remove up to 1 ppm of dissolved phosphate. This amount is best dosed drop by drop, over several hours or days, and only into a filter sock to trap the precipitate formed. Do not add more than this amount per day, even if the phosphate level is above 1 ppm. Phosban-L binds dissolved phosphate and forms an insoluble precipitate in the water, which causes cloudiness. For this reason, Phosban-L is best used drop by drop into a filter sock located on a drain or water supply line. The filter sock acts as a mechanical filter to trap the fine precipitate. A 5 micron filter sock traps the precipitate so it does not cloud the aquarium. NOTE: Some alkalinity is lost when controlling phosphate with a GFO phosphate binder or lanthanum chloride. Always monitor and supplement alkalinity when using them.
Caution: Dosing enough to cloud the water in an acrylic aquarium may cause a precipitate to form on the acrylic windows.
Contents: 33% lanthan chloride solution in water.
