BUCEPHALANDRA PYGMAEA 'BUKIT KELAM' – Epiphyte with Wavy Green Leaves for Nano and Foreground Aquascapes
Bucephalandra pygmaea 'Bukit Kelam' is a compact and decorative epiphyte from Borneo, recently reclassified botanically after being commonly known as “Wavy Leaf.” Its name refers to its place of origin in the Sintang region, where it thrives naturally on rocks and driftwood along streambeds and waterfalls.
This species features elongated dark green leaves with gently wavy edges, reaching up to 8 cm in height, making it ideal for foreground placement in planted aquariums, especially nano setups and Scaper’s Tanks. As a rheophyte, it should be attached to wood or stone, and not planted in the substrate to prevent rhizome rot.
It has a slow growth rate, thrives in low to medium light, and does well in soft to moderately hard water. CO₂ supplementation is optional but can enhance its growth and coloration. This plant is also safe for shrimp and peaceful invertebrates, making it an excellent choice for detailed aquascapes with minimal maintenance.
Main features:
• Compact Bucephalandra with wavy dark green leaves
• Grows up to 8 cm tall, ideal for foreground or nano tanks
• Attach to driftwood or rocks, avoid burying the rhizome
• Tolerates soft to moderate water and pH 5–8
• Light CO₂ enhances growth but not required
• Perfect for natural aquascapes and shrimp tanks
• Low maintenance, long-lasting aesthetic impact
Why choose Bucephalandra pygmaea 'Bukit Kelam':
A refined, slow-growing plant that brings texture, depth, and elegance to any aquascape—especially in compact or low-tech environments.
