ASKOLL TEST NO2

ASKOLL TEST NO2

Kit consisting of:

  • 1 Graduated test tube
  • 1 10 mL bottle of NO2 reagent
  • 1 color scale and the information leaflet.

The Nitrite Danger

Ideally, the Nitrite value should always be zero. In marine aquariums, a maximum concentration of 0.05 mg/L is acceptable; in freshwater, the limit value is 0.1 mg/L.

What are they

Nitrites derive from the oxidation of Ammonia by filter bacteria. Nitrites are toxic to fish because they reduce the blood's ability to transport oxygen and cause loss of appetite and disease and, in extreme cases, lead to death.

In recently set up aquariums, when the nitrifying bacterial flora have not yet adequately colonized the filter, Nitrites tend to accumulate and must be constantly monitored until they disappear.

How to do the test

1. Rinse the test tube repeatedly with the water to be analyzed.

2. Fill the test tube with 5 mL of water to be analyzed.

3. Add 5 drops of the NO2 reagent, shake the test tube well and wait about 5 minutes.

4. Determine the quantity of Nitrites by comparing the colour of the liquid in the test tube with that of the supplied colorimetric scale.
