Reef Carbonate is a concentrated blend (4,000 meq) of carbonate and bicarbonate salts designed to restore and maintain alkalinity in reef aquariums. Calcium and carbonates are essential for the growth of all corals. If either of these elements is depleted, growth will stop and the health of the fish will soon return. When used properly, Reef Carbonate will not deplete calcium, magnesium and strontium which normally tend to decrease with increasing alkalinity. Reef alkalinity should be maintained at 3–5 meq (8–14 dKH) and should never fall below 2 m².
