Phosphate is one of the three main macronutrients (nitrate, phosphate, potassium: NPK) required by plants and its deficiency can often become a factor limiting development in a highly planted aquarium. Flourish Phosphorus is a solution (4500 mg/l) of potassium phosphate. Different from some products that combine nitrate and phosphate in a fixed ratio, Flourish Phosphorus (not containing nitrates) can be dosed according to the needs of the plants without risking overdosing on the nitrate. To obtain excellent results, the use of Flourish Potassium and Flourish Phosphorus™ is recommended.
How to use:
Beginners: Use 2.5 ml (half a capful) once or twice a week or as needed in response to signs of phosphorus deficiency (e.g., stunted growth, dark green plants).
Experts:Initially increase the phosphorus dose by 0.05 mg/l (0.15 mg/l phosphate). The ideal phosphate level can vary, but is generally between 0.15-1.0 mg/l.
Use MultiTest Phosphate to check phosphate levels.
To increase the phosphate to a specific level, set the dose according to the following formula: 0.8vp = m, where v = volume of the tank in gallons, p = desired increase in phosphate and m = volume of product to be used in ml. For example, to raise 20 gallons of phosphate to 0.1 mg/l you would use: 0.8 * 20 * 0.1 = 1.6 ml.
