The Hanna Phosphorus Checker® Ultra Low Range (0 to 200 ppb) represents a good compromise between simple chemical test kits and professional-grade instrumentation. Chemical test kits have limited accuracy and resolution because they rely on distinguishing color differences as perceived by the human eye. Professional-grade instrumentation integrates a light source consisting of an LED or tungsten lamp with a filter and a light detector to precisely determine absorbance and ion concentration. Professional-grade instruments offer greater resolution and accuracy, but can cost hundreds of dollars. The Hanna Phosphorus Checker® Ultra Low Range uses a fixed wavelength LED source and a silicon photocell to provide the accuracy of professional-grade instrumentation at the affordable price of a chemical test kit.
