CALCIUM TEST

CALCIUM TEST

  • A) Using the 2 ml syringe, put 2 ml. of the water to be tested into the test tube. (If you want to run more tests but with lower precision use only 1 ml. of water)
  • B) Add a teaspoon of Ca-1. (Low precision 1/2 teaspoon)
  • C) Add 10 drops of Ca-2 to the water in the test tube and shake slowly for 10 seconds (low precision use 5 drops instead of 10)
  • D) Screw the small cylindrical cone tightly onto the 1 ml syringe. Fill this syringe with Ca-3 (make sure the end of the cone is always immersed in the Ca-3) until the bottom end of the black piston is exactly at 1.00 ml. Some air will be present above the piston but it will not affect the test result.
  • E) Add, drop by drop, the Ca-3 to the water in the test tube. Shake for a second or two. Continue until the color of the water changes from a pink-red to a bright blue.
  • F) Hold the syringe in front of you with the cone facing upwards and look at the position of the upper end of the black part of the piston. The syringe is graduated with intervals of 0.01 ml. Read the calcium value with the help of the reading table or calculated as follows. Mg/l Ca=(1-value read at stage F)*500
  • If you have chosen low precision, multiply the result obtained by two. Sea water in nature contains 425/450 mg/l of Calcium
  • Warning: The reagent Ca-2 contains calcium hydroxide, very irritating to the skin and eyes. In case of contact with the skin, rinse thoroughly with water. In case of contact with the eyes, rinse with plenty of water and consult a doctor. In case of ingestion, consult a doctor immediately.
