Calcium Test – Precision Testing Kit for Aquarium Calcium Levels

Calcium Test is an essential analysis kit designed to accurately monitor calcium (Ca) levels in marine and reef aquariums. Calcium is a crucial element for coral growth, coralline algae, and many other marine organisms. This test provides reliable and precise results, helping aquarists maintain optimal water parameters for a healthy and stable aquatic ecosystem.

Features and Benefits of Calcium Test

  • Accurate measurement: precisely detects calcium concentration in saltwater aquariums, providing essential data for aquarium maintenance.
  • Dual testing mode: allows for high-precision analysis (2 ml of water) or a quicker but less precise test (1 ml of water).
  • Easy to use: the graduated syringe and specially formulated reagents make the test simple, even for beginners.
  • Essential for coral growth: maintaining proper calcium levels (425-450 mg/l) supports SPS and LPS coral development and prevents deficiencies.
  • Immediate and easy-to-read results: the water sample changes color from pink-red to deep blue, making the final reading straightforward with the reference chart.
  • Safe and reliable: formulated with high-quality reagents for consistent and precise readings over time.

How to Use Calcium Test

  1. Water sampling: use the 2 ml syringe to collect 2 ml of aquarium water and pour it into the test vial (use only 1 ml for a less precise test).
  2. Add reagent Ca-1: add one scoop of Ca-1 (or half a scoop for low-precision testing).
  3. Add reagent Ca-2: pour 10 drops of Ca-2 into the vial and swirl gently for 10 seconds (use 5 drops for a low-precision test).
  4. Prepare the syringe: attach the small cylindrical cone to the 1 ml syringe and fill it with Ca-3 up to 1.00 ml, ensuring the tip remains submerged.
  5. Titration process: add Ca-3 drop by drop into the vial, swirling after each drop, until the color changes from pink-red to deep blue.
  6. Reading the result: check the syringe’s black plunger level and read the calcium value using the reference chart or calculate it with the formula:
    mg/l Ca = (1 - value read) × 500
If using the low-precision test, multiply the final result by 2.

Safety Precautions

  • Reagent Ca-2 contains calcium hydroxide, which is an irritant to skin and eyes.
  • If contact with skin occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • If it comes into contact with eyes, flush with plenty of water and seek medical advice.
  • If ingested, consult a doctor immediately.

Calcium Test is an indispensable tool for any marine aquarist, ensuring precise calcium level monitoring and preventing coral growth issues.
